  • Fiscal Responsibility

In general, when a tax cut is passed it is not accompanied by spending cuts that account for the decrease in revenue. This has left us with a $1.7 billion structural deficit and major budgeting issues on the horizon.

I will fight for the tough solutions we’ll need to restore order to our fiscal house while insuring honest, hard-working citizens are not taxed out of Wisconsin.

  • Health Care

As more families are forced to live check to check, Health Care premiums continue to rise and often cover less each year. Many employers offer increases in Health Care in place of real dollar raises. The current system leaves about 550,000 Wisconsin residents uninsured and thousands more under-insured.

I believe that access to affordable, quality health care is the right of every citizen in this country. Because the federal government has failed to address the issue, there have been several plans introduced at the state level. However, partisan games have blocked any of these proposals from becoming law.

I will work to address the burden that Health Care is placing on the average Wisconsin resident.

  • Great Schools

Across the state more and more school districts have to rely on referenda in order to balance their budgets and keep their doors open. It is time to revamp the school funding formula and renew Wisconsin's commitment to educational excellence.

We must give public schools the resources we need to do right by our children and protect taxpayers.

  • Tax Relief

Currently in Wisconsin there are over $3 billion in corporate tax loopholes, and more of the tax burden is on the shoulders of taxpaying families than ever before.

In 1971, property taxes on homes accounted for 50% of property taxes paid in the state. Today the share is 69%. In 1977, corporate income taxes accounted for 14 percent of the general tax dollars the state takes in. Today that number is a mere 6%. Meanwhile, the amount of tax loopholes for large corporations sits at $3 billion.

It is time to restore sanity to our tax code and ensure that our middle class is not taxed out of their homes.

That’s why I support the Homeowners Property Tax Exemption (HOPE) which would bring real relief to the average Wisconsinite. This credit allows homeowners to exempt the first $60,000 of their homes value. While at the same time closes loopholes that corporations use to shift the tax burden to the working citizens.

  • Environment

As a hunter and outdoorsman, I know the value of common sense conservation. Our natural spaces are a finite resource and I will work to ensure that our children do not inherit an environment that is damaged beyond repair.

We must work to not only decrease our dependence on foreign oil, but increase our use of renewable energy. The renewable energy industry continues to discover newer and more efficient ways to produce energy. We must take advantage of these technologies both for our future, and for our pocketbooks.
